Change My Life

I'm sitting at Demo Mobile 2003 in La Jolla, California and I'm having a great time.  To tell the truth, it's not the conference (although it's fun, with the usual good mix of networking, new products, and California sunshine).

What's making this a special occasion is that I'm using my Toshiba Tablet to take notes and it's WiFi enabled — and this conference is Wi-Fi enabled, too.  So whenever I get a little bored (not every demo is going to be your cup of tea, after all), I can surf the net.

So far I have found that I was quoted in the Wall Street Journal article on yesterday's annnouncement by Microsoft and IBM on Web Services, kept track of the Hurricane (which makes being in California even better),  and checked up on three of the more interesting companies who presented, by surfing to their web sites.  I wonder how I ever lived before WiFi.

Better yet, my conference companion (conferences are much more fun if you are attending with someone you like who you can share the event with) is lawyer and software entrepreneur Buzz Bruggeman.  We've just used the WiFi connection to download his ActiveWord for the Tablet PC software to my tablet and now I can surf to my favorite websites with just a few character strokes entered from wherever I happen to be.  (Getting to this blog went from 30 keystrokes to 6, for example.)

You, too, can save energy on tablets or desktops — check out ActiveWord at www.ActiveWords.com

How Much Information Technology Support is Enough?

How Much Information Technology Support is Enough? How much IT support should firms provide to users? Many firms answer this question via benchmarking (that is, comparing spending and staffing to comparable firms). Lawyers are demanding “customers.” They want a lot of support and, when they want it, they want it now. By and large, that… Continue reading How Much Information Technology Support is Enough?
