Queen Mary 2/Queen Elizabeth 2 Tandem Crossing Complete.
Yesterday the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth 2 arrived in Southampton, England after making an unprecedented tandem journey across the Atlantic from New York (here are photos of the QM 2 departing out of the Hudson River last week). For the Cunard Line, which has had an oceanliner of “Queen” designation turning the Atlantic route for 60 years, it was the first time two Cunard ships had made the crossing together. After a ceremony the Boston Cup, which designates the Cunard flagship, was transferred from the QE2 to the QM2.
The Queen Elizabeth 2 will undergo a re-fit in Germany and then be downgraded from oceanliner to cruise ship status and make coastal milk runs in the Caribbean. [cloudtravel]
