HOW-TO: VNC secure tunneling using Windows PuttY ssh client.. As a “side-effect”, shorter response times achieved due to ssh efficient traffic compression.”

Comment: A nice step-by-step answer to part of my question the other day.  Generous responses and a little bit of experimentation seem to have got me to the next stage.   In practice, once the machine is up and running the way we like, I'm sure we'll just kill the VNC access until we feel like we need it again.  [Serious Instructional Technology]
