code4lib

code4lib. If you are interested in discussing computer programming in the area of library and information sciences you might want to subscribe a new email list code4lib. Dan Chudnov, Chuck Bearden, Eric Morgan, Rob Fox and I got to talking via email about it, and it seemed like a good idea. Chuck (who helped mature the perl4lib list) instigated code4lib since he's been getting into python more for the past year or so, and thought we don't really need another language specific list 🙂 The idea is that code4lib is to provide a place where people can discuss the application of particular programming languages as well as the general issues, techniques, philosophies, and even history of programming for and in libraries. There are other venues (web4lib, xml4lib, perl4lib, php4lib) but this list hopes to encourage the holistic use of programming languages, how to integrate applications across language boundaries, and to provide useful discussion on how to select the right tool for your particular job.
